Fashion speaks a universal language… doesn't it?

From 17–21 September, London Fashion Week is back, bringing together designers, buyers, retailers, media and fashion lovers from around the world.

There'll be some big British names on the schedule – Burberry, Barbour, Erdem, Simone Rocha and Richard Quinn – alongside exciting emerging designers and international talent.

And while you don't necessarily need a translator to appreciate a fabulous dress, there's a lot more to taking a fashion brand global than what appears on the catwalk.

Behind every international fashion brand there's a whole world of words.

Websites and e-commerce.

Product descriptions.

Care instructions and garment labels.

Marketing campaigns and social media.

Contracts with international suppliers and retailers.

Press information.

Packaging.

And that's before we've even considered whether a brilliantly clever British slogan still sounds brilliantly clever in French, Spanish, Japanese or Mandarin...

Fashion might communicate visually, but fashion business still needs language.

That's one of the things we love about events like London Fashion Week. They bring different nationalities, cultures, ideas and creative influences together – and then send those ideas back out into the world.

We'll be watching to see which looks get everyone talking.

Although we're probably more interested than most in what language they're talking about them in.
